PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

October 15th, 2007 · No Comments

It’s hard to believe that a quarter of my Presidency has already been put into the books.  The time just seems to fly and every once in awhile you have to stop and look back to see where the time has gone.  Your Board of Directors have had three meetings and have been very busy working with the Education Committee to approve a change in the scholarship requirements switching to a more need basis rather than just academic requirements.  The Board also approved to increase the amount of the yearly scholarship from $1,000 to $1,500.

The Hearing Committee, Chaired by Pat Kirby, has been busy getting local residents in need of a hearing aid the necessary paperwork processed so they could obtain hearing aid assistance through the Lions.  Bill Burgin, the Chairperson for the Sight Committee, has helped several local people to obtain eye glasses and has directed non-local people to other Lions Clubs within areas.  The questions came up if the Lions Club members really understood the hearing and sight programs and what these Committees do for local people in need.  These questions were addressed by Dona Van Leer at the August Breakfast Meeting so the members know how the programs are administered.

Your Board of Directors has set the number one objective for the Club this year to obtain 30 new club members.  In order to retain a healthy and growing club it is imperative to recruit new members that want to be active and participate in the clubs fund raisers.  To accomplish this we need to show prospective new members that our service activities are fun as well as being important for the community.  That our meetings move quickly and efficiently and we have very interesting speakers at our Dinner Meetings and that the friendships and camaraderie that are created are often lifetime relationships.  Remember if you don’t ask you will never know.  Set a goal to ask two people you know or have met each month to join the Lions and meet interesting and dedicated people who want to help their community.  A new member and prospective member orientation is scheduled for October 24th at the River Hills Country Club.  The more new members we recruit the greater our membership base will grow and strengthen.

Don’t forget to purchase your Benefit Raffle tickets.  This is a River Hills Lions function that benefits the Rescue Squad and is sponsored by Lake Wylie Dentistry, R. P. Boggs &   Company, First Properties of the Carolinas and Greater Charlotte Automobile Dealers Association.  Our goal of $35,000 is $5,000 more than last year’s Benefit Raffle and the Committee feels comfortable that we can obtain this goal with everyone’s help.  Remember this benefits you as a Lake Wylie/River Hills resident.
See you at the Drawing,
R J
